Street Talk Team

How does Street Talk work

  • We make contact with young people on their turf.
  • We give information on healthy lifestyle choices, and encourage them to explore issues.
  • We operate the C Card scheme and provide condoms as appropriate.
  • We work in areas where young people are unable to access mainstream CHOICES

What is different about us?

  • We work in the evenings, out on the streets, in parks, around youth groups, just places where young people congregate.
  • We use detached youth work skills to engage the young people.
  • We engage with far more males than females.

What areas do we cover?

  • Broughton, Hibaldstow, Scawby.
  • Crowle, Burringham, Keadby, Gunness.
  • Barrow, Barnetby, New Holland, Goxhill, Winteringham, Barton, Burton
  • Parks and youth centres in Scunthorpe
  • Anywhere that young people need us!

What young people say about us

  • It makes it easier to ask things and go for help and advice.
  • Amazing service. Good for young people. More comfortable in our environment.
  • I think it’s good for short useful help. Also gives you help on anything. Helps for decisions.
  • Good for people if they need to talk or worried.
  • Somebody to talk to in confidence and get advice
  • A really good idea for Street Talk to visit villages. We feel comfortable talking to the team about all health issues

Team Promote Services

  • We recognise that young people’s needs are as individual as the young people themselves.
  • We give them information to help them to choose the best services for them.
  • We encourage them to use CHOICES, and promote mainstream services as the preferred option.

The Future

  • The team workreally hard to make a difference for young people particularly in the rural areas.
  • Young men are comfortable accessing the team, so this should help to ensure that STREET TALK has a future.
  • Funding on a long term basis is ongoing concern
